The Choir of Gonville & Caius, Cambridge is delighted to be visiting Copenhagen and to be performing this concert in the Copenhagen Baroque Festival. It is both an honour and a privilege. What we hope to offer is a survey of music we sing regularly back in Cambridge, and in the course of our academic year. Although focussing on ‘earlier’ repertoire, based around Victoria’s beautiful Missa ‘Simile est regnum’ and featuring Bach’s motet ‘Komm, Jesu, Komm’, we also showcase works by our own native composers from the UK – and spanning the centuries. From the Tudor composer Christopher Tye and musical descendant Henry Purcell, to Gustav Holst and and Jonathan Dove – we hope it will be feast of exciting and colourful choral music performed by these talented Cambridge students, many of whom visit Copenhagen for the first time.
